2011 – The year of People Power

Globally, if there is one element that stands out during 2011, it has to be People Power. Activism at the grassroots level around the world clearly set a new benchmark in recent times, with unprecedented levels of people’s involvement in changing and challenging the status-quo. The courage and conviction of people to drive major change is unparalleled in a really long time. When the world comes together through the might of the common people, seemingly impossible tasks start to look achievable. People want a better tomorrow and also an equal participatory role towards the growth of their society and future. Read more

Celebrate life and create more birthdays*…

Listening to stories from people impacted by cancer at an event organized by American Cancer Society (Discovery Ball 2011, Chicago ) was extremely emotional and touching. They shared stories of loved and dear ones : father, mother, brother, sister, husband, wife, children, teacher, friend… who were affected by this dreadful disease and how this has impacted their lives. As per American Cancer Society, ACS (www.cancer.org) last year in 2010, around 1500 people died from cancer every single day in US. It’s the number two killer disease in US (number one is heart disease). According to National Cancer Institute, NCI (www.cancer.gov) it’s estimated that 1.529 million people in US will be diagnosed with cancer in 2010… Fight with cancer is on : researchers, institutes, doctors, hospitals, govts, etc. are all fighting the battle to find a comprehensive cure, yet globally, approx. 7.5 million people died from cancer last year. Courage and Conviction – Salute 33

23 days and counting… May be another 3-4 months before any ray of sunlight touches them and they meet with their loved ones… holed up 2250 feet below the earth surface… I salute the trapped 33 Chilean miners – all of them, who have been able to keep their spirits alive under these extreme circumstances and giving clear message of courage and conviction to the rest of the world… Read more
